David Lang: the national anthems
Pulitzer Prize–winning composer David Lang studied the national anthems of all 193 UN countries to uncover shared themes about the fragility of freedom, inspiring this five-movement meditation on love, violence, and collective ideals. Originally co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Berlin Radio Choir, this powerful work will be performed at intervals on July 4th by the renowned Clarion Choir under the direction of Steven Fox, offering The Met’s visitors a striking, immersive reflection on our shared hopes and fears.

Baldwin Wallace Bach Festival
The Baldwin Wallace Bach Festival highlights the enduring influence of Johann Sebastian Bach through a program of rarely performed works and distinguished collaborations. Featured performances include a “Concerto Countdown” of Bach’s multi-harpsichord concerti, selections from historic archives presented by the ensemble Ampersand, and masterworks by Arvo Pärt, including Berliner Mass and Magnificat. The festival also showcases Bach’s Mass in G Minor and concludes with his celebrated Magnificat, performed by Baldwin Wallace ensembles alongside alumni and guest artists.

Frick Residency Concert: Secret Music
Sonnambula continues its Frick residency with a program that juxtaposes selections from the concerto della donne tradition of "secret" music making, featuring star soprano Song Hee Lee. The concert also features the world premiere of Secrets by composer Gregory Spears, commissioned by The Frick Collection and inspired by the enigmatic gaze of the sitter in Giovanni Battista Moroni’s Portrait of a Woman (1575) from the collection. Utilizing a blend of modern instruments, Renaissance viols, and the voices of acclaimed vocal trio ModernMedieval Voices, (Chloe Holgate, Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek, Olivia Greene) Secrets explores capacity of the “sonic gaze” to examine convergences between the imagined sounds of the past and the potential for music of today.

Trinity organists past and present — Bruce Neswick and Alcée Chriss III — team with Trinity Choir to spotlight the artistry of another former Trinity organist: the incomparable David Hurd. A leading composer and organist in Episcopal church music for decades, Hurd will direct his own choral works, which blend spiritual depth and bold harmonies.
Estonian Festival Orchestra at Carnegie Hall
Bringing the best Estonian talent together with leading musicians from around the world, the Estonian Festival Orchestra assembles for its highly anticipated North American debut during the global celebration of Arvo Pärt at 90. Led by Artistic Director Paavo Järvi, they’re joined by the Grammy Award–winning Pärt specialists of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Trinity Choir and soloists who include Midori, Hans Christian Aavik, and composer-pianist Nico Muhly. The wide-ranging program features significant early works, including a piece with a historic connection to Carnegie Hall; major works from Pärt’s game-changing tintinnabuli style; powerful 21st-century selections; and more. Together, it’s a stunning survey of Pärt’s singular musical world, performed by many of the artists who know it best.
Musica Sacra: SurRound III
In a candlelit, immersive performance led by Music Director Kent Tritle, singers move in, among, and around the audience, creating a breathtaking wall of sound that envelops you from every direction.
The evening features Thomas Tallis’ Renaissance masterpiece Spem in Alium, written for 40 solo voices and performed in both its original Latin and newly edited English versions, alongside Alessandro Striggio’s equally stunning 40-voice work Ecce Beatam Lucem. The program also includes stunning works spanning the entirety of the choral canon, from Gregorian Chant all the way to contemporary voices including Arvo Pärt and Caroline Shaw.
RELICS & MARTYRS
Presented by the much-acclaimed, renegade concert series Death of Classical, Relics & Martyrs weaves together movements from Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri, Caroline Shaw's to the hands, and the World Premiere of Doug Balliett's MARTYRS and RELICS to tell the stories of those we remember for their sacrifices, and to consider those whose stories we have tragically lost.

Clarion Choir - New Year's Concert
Clarion’s New Year’s Concerts will feature an eclectic mixture of a cappella works that bring out the best of The Clarion Choir: from the sacred motets of Bruckner, Gabrieli and Rachmaninoff to a stirring set of African-American spirituals arranged by the great American composer and arranger, William Dawson. The program will also include selections from Alexander Levine's Vigil for Peace, a prayer for peace in Ukraine, which The Clarion Choir premiered in last year’s concerts.

Clarion Music Society: Ockeghem at the Cloisters
Over a period of five hours, the different instrumental and vocal consorts from The Clarion Choir and The Clarion Orchestra will explore the works of Johannes Ockeghem in various parts of the Cloisters, including the Romanesque Hall, Cuxa Cloister, Langon Chapel, and Saint Guilhem Cloister. Ockeghem was one of the most influential early Renaissance composers and an important proponent of the Franco-Flemish School. After looking at his earlier and middle period works with smaller ensembles throughout the day, the Clarion singers and players will come together for a final concert of his later works from 7-8pm in the glorious Fuentidueña Chapel.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Five-time Emmy winning composer Jeff Beal makes his debut in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage leading the Silver Nitrate Big Band and Fourth Wall Ensemble in the live-to-picture U.S. premiere of his score for the Weimar Cinema masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Considered one of the most influential silent films in history, Caligari’s expressionist design, complex themes, and genre elements combined with Beal’s searing score showcases the singular voice of the musical storyteller. This film is from the holdings of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung in Wiesbaden.

Bach’s grand mass setting is a compilation of music that the composer wrote at different stages of his life and career. The composite piece has become one of the most beloved of all choral works, showing different styles and facets of the great composer’s creativity and spirituality. It is widely recognized as one of Bach’s most significant musical expressions. The Clarion Choir and The Clarion Orchestra, performing on Baroque instruments, present the Mass in B Minor in the beautiful and clear acoustics of Park Avenue Christian Church.
